Movie screens are flat. The images projected upon them should be flat as well.
3-D Animation has ruined the animated film...one of my favorite things in the world. There I've said it.
I took my four (almost five) year old son Alex to see "Monsters vs. Aliens in 3-D" on Tuesday and oh-my-God I thought I was going to loose my cookies the entire time. Can you say queasy? Motion sick? Ugh. I couldn't even eat my $7.00 bag of popcorn that I bought.
And forget about trying to watch the screen without the 3-D glasses on...it's all blurry. So that's almost worse. And then there was the decibel level of the soundtrack ...it was at least twice as loud as in a "regular" 2-D movie I swear. My ears were ringing for several hours afterward.
I mean really in this culture of over-stimulation that we live in, MUST we add something else to the mix? I don't have enough input onslaughting my senses?!?!?! I'm so ready to get myself to a nice quiet mountain-top nunnery it's not even funny.
Now in complete fairness Alex watched the entire film, turned to me and said in his most enthusiastic voice, "THAT WAS AWESOME!!!" Target audience reached and pleased.
So there it is. 3-D Animation: Mommy thumbs down. Alex thumbs up. Two days later and I'm still recovering from the sensory bombardment.
I say, "Just say no."
